Harvests Galore!!


We have been so blessed with the amount of food we have received already this summer. With it only being our first true attempt at urban homesteading, I think we are doing an ok job!! Yes we are learning a ton along the way from our failures but we are truly enjoying the trial and error!! Check out these harvest pictures from the last month. This is only a sliver of what we are getting. Again, we feel so blessed to be eating straight off our land and being able to share with our neighbors as well. Not to mention the nutrition and learning experiences our boys are getting along the way.

Well if you have followed us since spring, I’m sure you have seen that we have no shortage of carrots!! I just finished harvesting the rest of root vegetables and planted our fall root vegetable garden. The turnips and parsnips and beets were great but I think we will keep it to carrots and a small amount of turnips and beets in the fall. And of course we are abundant in zucchini!! Who isn’t in the month of July?? My peas are officially done, thanks to Bennie (our 4 month old, 40 lb beast of a black lab puppy that likes to eat pea plants). My onion loving husband has been munching those green onion tops for months now and it makes me glad. I’m tired of hearing him whine about when the onions will be ready to pick!!

imageimage image Sigh……be still my heart. Do you see all of those bell peppers? Beautiful amazing organic bell peppers daily!! If anyone is a consumer of organic bell peppers then you know And understand my excitement!! We’re saving some major cash!! I’m also very exciting to get a cucumber into our smoothie everyday. Mr. Precious and Mr. Blue Eyes love them cut up as well.

We just harvested our potatoes and it was a big fail. I’m going to do a post about it so stay tuned for that. That picture is our sink full of potatoes. That may sound like a lot but it isn’t for the amount we should have received this year. We will also be planting more of them for the fall as well.

Oh and the green beans are here!! Anyone that is family please put on your ear muffs……are they on……good!! For everyone else without ear muffs, I can’t wait to share with you my dilly bean recipe. All you Bloody Mary lovers will enjoy it. Speaking of bloody Mary’s!! We will also be making and canning home-made Bloody Mary mix straight out of our garden as well, using our own tomatoes, onions, peppers, and garlic!! Stay tuned for that one. They will be amazing Christmas gifts for our family this year. Ok family you may remove your ear muffs!! Oh and speaking of tomatoes!! image Isn’t it lovely?? I pick a bowl this size every night. It was perfect timing for the tomatoes to come ripe because I had just used my last bag of frozen tomatoes!!


And to finish off the Garden Love, here is a sweet picture of our first corn picking. Yes they are a little small and I jumped the gun. But I couldn’t help myself. We got a taste of whats to come so we will patiently wait a couple more weeks. I’m so excited about this corn because I have tried to plant corn for the last 3 years and failed miserably!! I literally just planted it this year for the stalks to decorate with in the fall!!

1 quart of purified water (you can use an RO system or this filter)

1 stick of Shaklee 180 Pomegranate Tea (LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.- I take this daily!!!!)

1 packet or a small sprinkle of stevia (I buy the Trader Joe’s brand)

Fresh mint leaves (to taste)

Ice (optional)

Stir with a straw and enjoy!!

I have one quart with breakfast and one around 2/3:00 for an extra kick!
