Raindrop and Clouds Themed Baby Shower

image

A couple of weeks ago I had the true honor of hosting my little sister’s Baby Shower. I am absolutely so excited to become an Auntie for the very first time to her and her husband’s sweet little boy Morgan.

Because of this I couldn’t resist letting out my inner Martha and going crazy with the PERFECT decor. There was only one problem…..It was the middle of January……….my house is small………..and there was 35 guests invited.

This shower left me restrained because of our cold weather and my 1400 sq. ft. But I made it work and it turned out lovely.

I am so angry with myself that I didn’t take blog worthy pictures. I apologize ahead of time for the iPhone quality pics. There are still some great ideas in this post if you can have patience!!

In the beginning of planning I made a list of all the things my sister loved and what popped into her head when she thought of having this sweet boy.

Soft greys, blues, and whites and silvers were the colors that she loved. Clean and crisp but still a little rustic. So my wheels got to turning and of course my pinterest page went crazy with ideas!!

I excitedly settled on a beautiful Raindrop and Cloud themed shower. It was perfect for all of the colors and my inspiration was this adorable cloud mobile tutorial that I had saved a couple of years ago to make for the Boys’ playroom. Of course I never got around to making time for it for them so this was my perfect excuse!!

I also knew right away exactly how I wanted her stationery and couldn’t wait to get all the details to my lovely “card lady” as I call her!!  I highly recommend Alisa Richardson for all your stationary needs. She does our Christmas cards every year and then always pulls through for any invitations, business cards, or signs that I need. I give her my ideas and free rein with her creative powers and they always turn out perfect. Check out how adorbs these invites are!! I was just so smitten with them. I especially love the detail that was carried on to the back of the invites!!

I quickly got to work on the hand cut raindrops that I made out of these little confetti dots that I got at target for $2!! Have you seen their party supply spot lately?? Its amazing.

After finishing the 200 raindrops it was time to write out all of my chalk boards. I use chalk boards for tons of stuff when I am entertaining. I actually made all of them from old picture frames and mirrors that I had saved. All I did was remove the glass and spray paint them with chalk board spray paint……….Yes if you didn’t already know there is chalk bard spray paint……..your welcome!! When I found it a few years ago I became obsessed trying to find anything that I could change into a chalk board!! Kind of like when I got my first label maker……But not as bad!!

Here is a chalk board that greeted guests as they arrived.

Instead of doing a sign in book I decided to have our dad (who is a woodworker) make baby blocks for all of the guests to sign and decorate. I had a basket with pretty stickers and each block had a letter of the alphabet for baby Morgan to play with someday. I just love how special it is that our Dad (Morgan’s Papa) had a hand in this!!

For going home gifts I made these sweet little tea light candle packages for all of the guests. I love consumable gifts but this time I wanted something that would keep the guest thinking of My sister and brother-in-law and of course our sweet Morgan. Who doesn’t need more thoughts and prayers when they are in labor and the first night with a newborn?? I thought this would be great for surrounding them with more love and support on their special day!!

The food was absolutely delish (not to toot my own horn). Sadly I can’t afford to pay for catering for events (fingers crossed that some day I will) so my inner perfectionist wouldn’t accept anything less that making the catering style food myself along with the help of my Mama. Tea sandwiches, croissants, and of course chocolate covered strawberries were some of the menu items that got devoured. A shower wouldn’t be complete without cake of some kind so we had yummy vanilla bean cupcakes with fluffy whipped white frosting that looked like clouds sprinkled with light blue rain drops.

For drinks we offered sparkling lemonade and Champagne Clouds. I put a little fluff of light blue cotton candy in the bottom of champagne glasses to look like clouds!! I was so bummed because I originally planned for white cotton candy but couldn’t find it ANYWHERE!! So I had to settle for blue (which ended up being a hit because it turned everyone’s champagne a pretty baby blue!!).

Speaking of raindrops and clouds here are some pictures of the decor. I used batting (pillow stuffing) for the clouds and just tucked it behind my curtain rods. I then hung the homemade raindrops all along the rods to look like it was raining. I am seriously kicking myself right now for not taking up close pics of how it looked.

I didn’t get very good pictures of the sparkly silver branches but there was also raindrops dripping from them as well. I painted the banner last-minute because the mantle was really lacking something. I also bought the M and spray painted it with a chrome finish. I feel like I could have probably spruced it up a little more too!!

Baby’s breath was the perfect accent for the flowers and color scheme. I bought these adorable vases from the Dollar spot at target for 3$!! I cant figure out how they are so cheap. They are solid glass!!

Last but not least I made a photo collage of my sister and her hubby from their baby pictures. This awesome heart board was made out of pallets by some of our closest friends for me for a christmas gift!! YES THEY MADE IT!! It has been awesome for birthday parties and other events.

The day was really amazing and my sweet sister was so happy with everything which in turn made me so happy as well.

She was showered generously with gifts and great advice from the closest women in her life that she holds dear.

I have to say I am a little emotional writing this blog post and seeing all the pictures. My baby sister is having a baby and I can’t believe it. I am so excited for her to feel all the love and emotions that are to come for her. They are indescribable.
